316/316L Stainless Steel Ball Manufacturer

RISHENG manufactures AISI 316 and 316L stainless steel balls for pumps, valves, dispensing systems, food-processing equipment and other low- to moderate-load OEM applications requiring better resistance to chlorides than AISI 304.
Available in metric and inch diameters from 0.8 mm to 25.4 mm and ISO 3290 grades from G40 to G1000. Both 316 and 316L are austenitic stainless steels containing molybdenum. They are generally non-magnetic in the annealed condition, although cold working may produce a slight magnetic response.

AISI 316 vs 316L Stainless Steel Balls

AISI 316 and 316L stainless steel balls have similar molybdenum content, general corrosion resistance and application ranges. The main difference is carbon content. AISI 316L has a lower carbon limit and should be selected when the drawing, material standard or welded assembly specifically requires a low-carbon grade.
For most ball applications, the final choice should be based on the customer’s drawing, operating medium, required material certificate and corrosion conditions.

How to Build 316/316L Stainless Steel Balls

Cold Heading of Stainless Steel Ball Blanks

The stainless steel wire is cut into controlled lengths and cold headed into spherical blanks. This cold-forming process improves material strength and creates the initial ball shape. AISI 316 and 316L are austenitic stainless steels, cold working may produce a slight magnetic response in the finished balls.

Flashing and Preliminary Grinding

The equatorial flash created during cold heading is removed. The ball blanks are then ground to improve roundness, reduce dimensional variation and prepare the surface for precision finishing.

Precision Grinding and Lapping

Controlled grinding and lapping processes gradually improve the diameter, sphericity and surface consistency of the precision stainless steel balls. Process parameters are adjusted according to the required ball size, tolerance and precision grade.

Polishing, Cleaning and Optional Passivation

The balls are polished to achieve the required surface finish and then thoroughly cleaned and dried. Passivation or additional surface treatment can be evaluated when specified by the customer.

Precision Measurement and Quality Inspection

The finished precision stainless steel balls are inspected using suitable measuring instruments to verify ball diameter, dimensional tolerance, roundness, surface finish, hardness and appearance.Inspection methods and documentation are confirmed according to the required precision grade, ball size and order specifications.

Automatic Sorting and Size Classification

After inspection, the finished balls are sorted and classified according to diameter and dimensional variation. This process improves lot consistency and helps ensure that the supplied 316 and 316L stainless steel balls meet the confirmed tolerance requirements.

Packaging and Batch Traceability

Qualified AISI 316/316L stainless steel balls are counted, batch identified and packed according to ball diameter, quantity and transportation requirements. Suitable inner and export packaging helps protect the balls from moisture, contamination and surface damage during storage and shipment.RISHENG can provide customized packaging, material certificates, inspection reports and batch-traceability documents according to the confirmed order requirements.

Changzhou Risheng Steel Ball Co., Ltd. is located on the eastern shore of Taihu Lake, adjacent to Shanghai, with convenient transportation. Since its establishment in June 1995, the company has been dedicated to developing and manufacturing steel balls, integrating research and development with trade.

For many years, Risheng building on the foundation of the Wujin Metal Ball Research Institute, has been committed to researching steel ball manufacturing technology. We primarily produce bearing steel balls
(AISI 52100), stainless steel balls (AISI 201/304/316/420/440/430), and carbon steel balls (AISI 1015/1045/1085) with diameters ranging from 0.8mm to 25.4mm, with precision grades up to G10, G40, and G100. We also offer custom specifications for alloy steel balls, military steel balls, copper balls, UFO balls, ceramic balls, and other metal balls.

Packaging & Deliver of 316 Stainless Steel Ball

High-strength inner packaging: Shockproof foam bags or custom plastic boxes are used to secure each 316 stainless steel ball in place, protecting it from impacts and scratches.

Moisture-proof protection: A moisture-proofing agent is added to effectively prevent the impact of moisture on the product during transportation.

Sturdy outer packaging: Thickened corrugated cardboard boxes or wooden pallets (for large orders) are used to ensure safe long-distance transportation.

Clear labeling: Product specifications, quantity, and drop warnings are clearly marked on the outer packaging box for easy verification and safe handling.

FAQ of 316 Stainless Steel Ball
  • Q Can 316/316L balls be heat hardened?

A No. Austenitic 316 and 316L stainless steels cannot be hardened through conventional quench-and-temper heat treatment. Finished hardness depends mainly on material condition and cold working.
  • Q Can 316 stainless steel balls be used in saltwater?

A AISI 316 generally performs better than 304 in chloride-containing environments, but it is not completely immune to pitting or crevice corrosion. Chloride concentration, temperature, pH and exposure duration must be evaluated.
  • Q Are 316/316L stainless steel balls magnetic?

A They are generally non-magnetic in the annealed condition. Cold heading, grinding and other cold-working processes may produce a slight magnetic response.
  • Q What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel balls?

A AISI 316 contains molybdenum and generally provides better resistance to pitting in chloride-containing environments. AISI 304 is usually more economical for fresh water, atmospheric exposure and mild industrial applications.
  • Q What is the difference between 316 and 316L stainless steel balls?

A AISI 316L has a lower carbon content than AISI 316. Their general corrosion resistance and typical ball applications are similar. The required grade should be selected according to the customer’s drawing and material standard.
  • Q What are the advantages of your company?
