What Are Aluminum Oxide (Alumina) Balls?

Alumina balls are sintered from aluminium oxide powder rather than machined from metal, which gives them a combination steel cannot offer: hardness above HV 1500, no magnetic signature, no electrical conductivity, and resistance to almost every acid and alkali. At 3.90 g/cm³ they weigh about half what a chrome steel ball of the same diameter weighs.
