Low Carbon Steel Ball

Low Carbon Steel Ball(1010, S10C, DC01, C10C) is a type of ball made from stainless steel

Low Carbon Steel Ball

Low carbon steel balls are spherical components made of low carbon steel (carbon content is usually 0.08%~0.25%), mainly produced by cold heading, heat treatment (such as carburizing or annealing), grinding and polishing. They are widely used in bearings, rollers, slides, bicycles, furniture hardware, toys and low-load industrial applications.

How to Build Low Carbon Steel Balls

Cold Heading

The cold heading uses equipmentZ32-7.5. The purpose is to be able to punch the steel wire out of the qualified ball blank. After the steel ball is cold heading, the next processing process is carried out.

Screening

Screening, the balls after the hard grinding is initially screened through the screening machine, and the unqualified ball will be eliminated.

Polish Steel Balls

Polishing ball process is to initially polish the ball blank into a circle. It's a very important process.

Soft Grinding

The machine M360 is ued for soft grinding.

Heat Treatment

The heat treatment of the shaft steel ball is to raise the temperature in the furnace to 1050 ℃, the heat preservation time is 40-60 minutes, and the tempering time is 90 minutes. During the heat treatment process, the hardness, vulcanization, Metallographic structure and crushing load are clearly defined.

Oil Removal

Oil removal equipment, put the ball into the equipment, after screening, separate the ball from the oil.

Hard Grinding

Hard grinding is the method of grinding the ball after heat treatment with grinding wheel in the grinding machine. Its role is to further improve the accuracy and surface quality.

Measuring Instrumentation

After the hard grinding, the steel ball will be measured in accuracy, hardness, etc., and the three-needle measuring instrument will be used to check whether the expected effect is achieved.

Cleaning

After screening, the steel ball is cleaned again and then dried.

Sorting

After cleaning, the steel ball will be qualified into the container through the sorting machine, and finally manually test to complete the whole process of steel ball production.

Features of  Low Carbon Steel Balls

Low-carbon steel balls are easy to weld and process, and their magnetic properties facilitate sorting. However, they are susceptible to rust and require anti-rust oil or electroplating.

They have low manufacturing costs, significantly lower than chrome steel or stainless steel balls, making them an economical choice for consumer products and large-scale production.

Low-carbon steel balls, with a carbon content below 0.25%, offer excellent ductility and cold workability, making them suitable for deep-drawn parts.

Our Factory

Changzhou Risheng Steel Ball Co., Ltd. is located on the eastern shore of Taihu Lake, adjacent to Shanghai, with convenient transportation. Since its establishment in June 1995, the company has been dedicated to developing and manufacturing steel balls, integrating research and development with trade.

For many years, Risheng building on the foundation of the Wujin Metal Ball Research Institute, has been committed to researching steel ball manufacturing technology. We primarily produce shaft steel balls (AISI 52100), stainless steel balls (AISI 201/304/316/420/440/430), and carbon steel balls (AISI 1015/1045/1085) with diameters ranging from 0.8mm to 25.4mm, with precision grades up to G10, G40, and G100. We also offer custom specifications for alloy steel balls, military steel balls, copper balls, UFO balls, ceramic balls, and other metal balls.

Packaging & Deliver of LOW Carbon Steel Ball

High-strength inner packaging: Shockproof foam bags or custom plastic boxes are used to secure each low carbon steel ball in place, protecting it from impacts and scratches.

Moisture-proof protection: A moisture-proofing agent is added to effectively prevent the impact of moisture on the product during transportation.

Sturdy outer packaging: Thickened corrugated cardboard boxes or wooden pallets (for large orders) are used to ensure safe long-distance transportation.

Clear labeling: Product specifications, quantity, and drop warnings are clearly marked on the outer packaging box for easy verification and safe handling.

FAQ of Low Carbon Steel Ball
  • Q What precision grades are available for lLow Carbon Steel Ball s?

    A
Grade 100: Ultra -precise (±0.0001" deviation), used in semi-precision bearings.

Grade 500–1000: Commercial tolerance (±0.0005–0.001"), common for casters, slides, or toys. Lower grades (500–1000) are typical for cost-sensitive applications.
  • Q Can Low Carbon Steel Balls be Customized?

A Yes, manufacturers offer custom sizes (0.5mm–50.8mm), tolerances, coatings (e.g., nickel for corrosion resistance), and hardening options (case-hardened or soft). They are often chosen for magnetic properties or ductility in toys and magnetic games.
  • Q What are the main applications for Low Carbon Steel Balls?

    A
Bearings and Motion: Drawer slides, casters, roller skates, conveyors, low-precision bearings.

Consumer Products: Bicycle parts, locks, toys, pinball machines, aerosol mixing (plug balls).

Industrial: Vibratory finishing, magnetic sculptures, gravity bars for paper/wood handling. They are unsuitable for high-load, high-speed, or corrosive environments (use high carbon, chrome, or stainless steel instead).
  • Q How are Low Carbon Steel Balls Manufactured?

A Low carbon steel wire (e.g., AISI 1018) is cold-headed into blanks, flashed, and ground. For case-hardened balls, they are heated to ~1700°F in a carbon-rich atmosphere (carburizing) to harden the outer layer (~0.5–1mm deep), then quenched, tempered, ground, and polished. Soft balls skip heat treatment. Final inspection ensures sphericity and tolerance per ABMA standards (e.g., ±0.0001" for Grade 100).
  • Q What are Low Carbon Steel Balls, and what is their composition?

    A

Low carbon steel balls are made from steel alloys with 0.05–0.3% carbon, such as AISI 1010, 1015, or 1018. They primarily consist of iron with trace amounts of manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus, but lack significant alloying elements like chromium. They are typically case-hardened or left soft for specific uses.
