RISHENG manufactures AISI 420 stainless steel balls for applications requiring higher hardness and wear resistance than conventional austenitic stainless steel balls. As a martensitic stainless steel, AISI 420 can be heat-treated to improve surface hardness, strength and dimensional stability.

Our AISI 420 steel balls are available in metric and inch diameters for valves, pumps, hardware mechanisms, guide systems and general industrial assemblies. Ball diameter, precision grade, hardness, surface finish and inspection requirements are reviewed according to the customer’s drawing or purchase specification.

From Customer Drawing to a Confirmed Production Specification

Raw Material Verification

RISHENG reviews the drawing number and revision, AISI 420 material designation, nominal diameter, ball grade or dimensional tolerance, required hardness, surface condition, order quantity and intended application. Missing, unclear or conflicting requirements are identified for clarification.

Manufacturing Feasibility Evaluation

Our production team evaluates whether the required diameter, tolerance, hardness and surface finish can be produced consistently. Tooling, heat-treatment conditions, finishing requirements, order quantity and other production factors are reviewed before the order is accepted for manufacturing.

Production Specification Confirmation

The confirmed material condition, dimensions, tolerance or ball grade, hardness range, surface requirements, quantity and packaging instructions are recorded as the production basis. Inspection and documentation requirements are transferred to the agreed inspection plan.

Sample or First-Article Approval

For a new diameter, non-standard tolerance or application-specific requirement, sample production or first-article inspection can be arranged. The sample quantity, approval criteria and confirmation method should be agreed before mass production.

Hardness Inspection

Hardness is checked after heat treatment according to the confirmed hardness scale, required range and sampling plan. Rockwell or Vickers hardness testing can be specified according to the ball size and inspection requirement.

Production Completion and Quality

Finished AISI 420 stainless steel balls are submitted for final inspection under the agreed quality-control plan. Products are released for packaging and shipment only after the applicable acceptance requirements have been completed.

Information Required for AISI 420 Stainless Steel Ball Selection

Fluid or Chemical Contact
Identify whether the AISI 420 ball will contact fresh water, steam, air, oil, fuel, cleaning agents, chloride solutions, acids or other chemicals. AISI 420 provides moderate corrosion resistance but is generally not the preferred material for seawater, concentrated chlorides or strongly corrosive media.

Load and Movement
Confirm whether the ball is used for sealing, rolling, agitation, positioning, locking or continuous contact. The operating function and expected load help determine the required hardness, precision grade and surface finish.

Operating Temperature
The normal and maximum operating temperatures, especially where temperature may affect hardness stability, corrosion resistance, lubrication or mating components.

Mating Components
The ball contacts a valve seat, raceway, spring, guide or housing, provide the mating material and relevant assembly dimensions. For sealing applications, ball diameter, roundness, surface finish and ball-to-seat fit should be evaluated together.

Ball Specification
State the required ball diameter, dimensional tolerance, hardness, precision grade and surface roughness. If no standard ball grade is specified, provide the drawing limits or acceptance criteria for manufacturing review.
