Standard 420 stainless steel has a carbon content of only 0.15–0.40%, limiting its maximum hardness to around HRC52. In contrast, 420C (high-carbon version) increases carbon content to 0.45–0.60% and optimizes chromium content (12–14%), laying the material foundation for superior hardness.
